Scouts are pegging WHL Brandon Wheat Kings F Nolan Patrick the consensus number one pick at next June’s draft. He’s off to a hot start with six points in three games and added a beautiful highlight reel goal on Sunday. [The Hockey News]

Oilers Trim Roster to 36 Players

Edmonton trimmed their training camp roster down to 36 players. Jujhar Khaira, Mitch Moroz, Eetu Laurikainen, and Joey LaLeggia were sent to AHL Bakersfield. Taylor Beck and David Musil were placed on waivers with the purpose of AHL reassignment. [Oil on Whyte]

Nashville Predators made a significant amount of cuts on Sunday afternoon. They sent 14 players to AHL Milwaukee, most notably Jack Dougherty, Matt Irwin, Justin Kirkland, and Harry Zolnierczyk. They also released nine players from tryouts, including Mark Visentin and Eric Knodel. The Preds also sent Frederic Allard back to his junior club. [NHL.com]

Perhaps it hadn’t even been considered as a possibility to most fans, but if anyone out there was worried that Johnny Hockey would follow in the footsteps of Jacob Trouba, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Gaudreau’s agent Lewis Gross immediately shot down the possibility stating that his client wants to stay in Calgary [Sportsnet]

Boogaard Family Keeps Their Legal Battle Going Against NHL

Joanne Boogaard, the mother of former NHLer Derek Boogaard who unfortunately passed away, will have her case heard. This past Thursday, a U.S District Court Judge granted an amendment that will allow Derek’s family to move forward with their case against the NHL. The Boogaard family filed a wrongful death lawsuit back in 2013 claiming they mishandled their son’s drug addiction. [CBC]

Canucks Troy Stetcher Likely Headed for Utica
