There were eight games on the schedule Sunday night. A little higher than usual, but that could be due to the fact that no games will be played on Monday. Apologies, the late games between Ottawa/Edmonton and Calgary/Washington had not concluded at the time this was written.
On Sunday afternoon, Buffalo knocked off the Jets on the road 3-1. Florida also pulled off a road victory in Motown beating the Red Wings 5-2. Philadelphia continued the away trend sneaking away with a 4-3 win in Raleigh against the Hurricanes. The New York Islanders were able to get the job done at home with a decisive 5-1 victory over the Maple Leafs.

Coyotes Need New Approach
Marcus Velasco over at Howlin’ Hockey discusses how this Arizona team needs to take a new approach following their slow start. Tuktoyaktuk Goalie With Sights on NHL
Tuktoyatuk is a remote Inuit community north of the Arctic Circle about as far forth as you can get in the Northwest Territories. Mitchell Jacobson is an 18-year-old goalie from the small village that has been working his way up through the ranks. In 2015-16 he played for Jr.B Onion Lake in the North Eastern Alberta league, this year, he suits up for Jr.A Espanola in Northern Ontario. [Yahoo Sports]

NHL Daily Morning Rant
We’ve come to the end of the month. With that, here are my top five impressions to start the 2016-17 season:
1. The Edmonton Oilers are for real – as long as they stay healthy. The only question, “Will they stand strong in the face of adversity when faced with injuries, or fall apart as they have in past years?”
2. Central Division is surprisingly bad so far. I’m not sure how the total will look after Sunday’s games, but heading into them, the Central had fewer points than any division in the entire league. This just one year after the top three teams beat out the 1st place Pacific Division winner.
3. Another exciting Calder Trophy class brewing, still other likely names to emerge in the next month or two.

4. Trades Brewing – teams are getting to a point in the next few weeks where important decisions need to be made. Certain clubs are hoping for players to step up in the wake of injuries, if they prove unsuccessful, GMs will have no choice but to make a deal.
5. Teams beginning to tighten things up defensively – the number of shutouts has sky rocketed over the last seven days. As expected, coaches are implementing more structure and in turn we’re seeing more low-scoring affairs. Expect the hot goaltending performances to continue.
