Columbus Blue Jackets put up double-digits against the NHL’s best team, the Montreal Canadiens.  Habs netminder Al Montoya remained in net for all 10 goals.

The Columbus Blue Jackets sunk the Montreal Canadiens in a shutout in which they scored 10 goals. The Canadiens  eight-game winning streak came to an end when the Blue Jackets destroyed them in a historic blowout for their fifth win of the season.

The  Jackets delivered excellent play to one of the best teams this season and surprised many with the blowout win. The team achieved new heights in the game, especially in the final score.

Blue Jackets Dominate

The Jackets had six goal scorers, four of whom had two goals each, in their game against the Habs. In the first period alone the Jackets got three names on the scoreboard:  F Cam Atkinson, D Seth Jones and D David Savard.

The second period brought even more goals to the Blue Jackets. The second period resulted in another five goals from the team coming from Atkinson, F Scott Hartnell,  F Josh Anderson and two from F Nick Foligno.

Columbus entered the third period with eight goals and fans were chanting that they wanted  to make it 10.  Hartnell and Anderson answered Columbus fans when they both scored for a second time around halfway through the period.

Columbus goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves to grab his third shutout of the season. Bobrovsky now has five wins, a 1.30 GAA and a save percentage of .960 this season.

Bobrovsky’s outstanding performance and the continuous offense brought the Jackets a huge win that they needed and wanted.  Columbus set a new franchise record with 10 goals and became the League’s first 10-goal shut out since 1996.

Canadiens Fall

The Montreal Canadiens had goaltender Al Montoya in net to rest Carey Price. Montoya saved 30 of 40 shots and posted a save percentage of .750.

More from Columbus Blue Jackets

The Canadiens let Montoya play the entire game and didn’t have a goalie change to switch up the goal. Columbus’ continuous production was too much to handle for a goaltender, especially when he would leave the game with 30 saves.

Regardless of the monumental loss, Montoya made a large number of saves but was no match for the parade of shots. The Canadiens lacked the defensive play they needed to prevent the high number of shots on goal.

Montreal has been having a fantastic season so far but came across a game where everything fell apart. The team left the game disappointed and somewhat embarrassed. This kind of play reflects poorly on what Montreal is capable of.

The Canadiens will need to start fresh and go into their next game determined to put their best play forward.

Columbus Wins Big, Moves Forward

Columbus had a big night. The Jackets needed a big win to give them a new air of confidence. The new confidence might give Columbus a boost, therefore pushing them to win more games.

Bobrovsky has been putting his best play forward and, as a result, has been bringing his team more wins. The push on production gave Columbus the edge to get ahead and keep going.

Some might see the big win as a fluke on Montreal’s part and some might see it as a huge victory for Columbus, either way the game was historic.

Moving forward, Columbus will look to grab more wins and keep getting ahead of the rest of the Metropolitan Division.  Columbus is currently fifth in the division with 11 points.

The Jackets’ next game will be a road matchup against the St.Louis Blues on Nov. 5 (tonight) at 7 p.m.
