Slava Voynov Sentenced to 90 Day Vacation

It seems like Slava Voynov is one lucky guy; after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor domestic violence charge Voynov will be resting in the Seal Beach Detention Center for the next 90 days. This is the same “jail” that bragged about having flat screen TV’s, media room, world release and oh yeah new beds. This place is nothing more than a micro-motel. It even allows inmates to pay for better rooms. In a world that sends people who can’t follow the law to jail this is a new low. For the low, low price of $100-$120 you too can spend you sentence in a luxury cell. I can’t speak from a legal standpoint, but even in pleading no contest; it would appear that Slava Voynov did break a law and allegedly hit his wife.

"The Seal Beach Detention Center, which was shut down in 2007 due to its poor financial health only to reopen a year later, is charging inmates between $100 to $120 per day to indulge in their pay-to-stay program. For a daily price, inmates can enjoy brand new beds, flat-screen TVs and media centers. [NBC LA]"

better life. But this is prison; this is somewhere a person is being sent for breaking the laws of the land. I don’t care about a plea deal. Those are just used to end a case, and “help” both sides when a conviction is going to be hard to get. In this case we have a rich hockey player who made what I’ve heard people say is a “mistake”.  Let me stop you there, a mistake is buying 2% milk when you really needed skim. This alleged crime was a moment of stupidity, and for that moment Slava Voynov gets to hang out for 90 days in an apartment and “think” about what he did.

How far can this pay to stay detention center go? Maybe for an extra $10 Voynov can get Coke and a strip steak and not RC Cola and a steak-em… Seriously, call it prison or a detention center people are there for doing something wrong, and I’m all in favor of human rights, but when the “jail” has things that a lot of people cannot have in their own home the system is beyond broken. It really does seem that money can change everything; even prison.

Every person makes mistakes in their life time, and Slava Voynov is no different. The system is what the system is and while I clearly disagree with it; that’s life. As for Voynov’s NHL career; would you welcome him to your team?
