Kitchener Pulls Out a Big Time Win Against Flint.
With the Kitchener Rangers currently sitting sixth in the Western Conference, and Flint sitting seventh, the Rangers needed a big win to stay ahead of Flint and they got one. Saturday night Kitchener got out to a quick one nothing lead but then in the second Flint would tie it up, however, that was only momentarily as the Rangers would then notch in two more to make it a 3-1 game heading into the third. But when the third rolled around, the Firebirds notched two goals to tie the game and force overtime. And in overtime, the Kitchener Rangers pulled out a much-needed victory and two points.
Hamilton Bulldogs Thump the Peterborough Petes.
Peterborough sits first in the East while Hamilton sits fourth, and with the team, the Petes have you would think they would be able to pull out a big victory to get a stronger foothold on first place. Well, that didn’t happen as the Hamilton Bulldogs absolutely took it to the Petes by a score of 7-3. Scoring was carried by Los Angeles prospect Matt Luff who had himself a five-point night (3g, 2a), he also finished the game as a plus two.
The Victoria Royals Push the High Flying Kelowna Rockets to Overtime.
As stated in a previous CHL article, Kelowna has a powerhouse team and earlier in the year they were ranked among the top ten in the CHL, they also currently sit fourth in West. So when they faced the seventh-place Victoria Royals (who’s team isn’t as deep or talented) you would think that would be a blowout game, well you would be wrong this time around. As the Royals pushed the Rockets to overtime after Kelowna got out to a 3-2 lead in the second period. But Victoria tied it in the third only to fall in overtime. If they won it probably would have been one of the biggest upsets of the week.
Red Deer Wins Again by a Solid Margin Over the Kootenay ICE.
Red Deer currently sits sixth in the Eastern Conference and has been on quite the winning streak as of late. The Kootenay ICE, on the other hand, have been a pretty solid team that can grind things out despite sitting last in the East. But when they faced the Rebels they were knocked back down to earth as the Rebels smashed Kootenay by a score of 6-1. Red Deer got off to a hot start when they scored four goals in the first period. After that, they just kept applying the pressure and were able to hold out for the big win and earned two much-needed points.
Top Ranked Saint John Sea Dogs Pull of Another Victory Against the Mooseheads.
Saint John sits as the number one team in the CHL for a reason, all four lines are absolutely deadly, they have three defensive lines just as good and two solid netminders. And since there is only one conference and three divisions in the QMJHL. Saint John currently sits first while the Mooseheads sit fifteenth. And Saturday night the Sea Dogs showed every exactly why. Despite Halifax getting out to a quick 2-1 lead in the first period, Saint John would show that grit and storm back for four goals to take a 5-2 lead heading into the third. Halifax could only muster up a single goal that period meaning they fell short on the scoreboard and let Saint John add two more points to their team totals for this season.
