Calgary Flames star Johnny Gaudreau caused a stir in Calgary last week when he revealed that it would ‘be sweet’ to play for his hometown team, the Philadelphia Flyers. The 23 year old NHL star revealed the thought while being interviewed on a Philadelphia sports radio show.
Gaudreau was born in the south of New Jersey. He rooted for the Flyers throughout his childhood. The forward alluded that the Flyers will hold a place in his heart as his hometown team. Many players desire to play for their hometown teams. It’s something you dream about as a kid while playing sports.
His comments were only a reference to how any player might find it alluring to play for his hometown team. Still, Flames fans weren’t happy their star had aspirations to play elsewhere. Gaudreau wanted to clarify his comments, though, and didn’t feel right letting his fans believe he didn’t want to be in Calgary.
It didn’t take long for Gaudreau to jump in to confirm his love for his team. After all- what isn’t there to love about the Flames? Hockey cities don’t get much deeper than a Canadian hockey town like Calgary. Not to mention, Calgary is the city that put their bets on Gaudreau in the first place.
