The Ottawa Senators have a lot of needs. They could use a franchise defenseman, especially with the future of Erik Karlsson in doubt. However, the Senators really need some guys who can create offense. Their offense is horrific once you look past Matt Duchene, Mike Hoffman, and Mark Stone.

Filip Zadina is the antidote to the Senators’ forward depth woes. He’s a dynamic two-way forward who is fairly similar to Stone. Zadina should be a consistent 20 to 30 goal scorer who might even reach 40 goals at some point.

Another important thing is that he could be ready for the NHL as soon as next season. Zadina’s already dominating the QMJHL at an impressive rate. However, the dumb rules could keep him in juniors for another season. Due to the NHL and CHL agreement, players who are drafted out of a CHL team aren’t allowed to play in the AHL until the age of 20.

Zadina, however, is dominant enough in all three zones to make an impact as a teenager. He’ll likely get at least a short chance in the NHL at some point before he turns 20. Though getting Dahlin would obviously be huge for the Senators, Zadina’s one heck of a consolation prize.
