1. Seattle… Whatever They Will Be Called

Why Quenneville is a fit for Seattle: The NHL’s newest expansion team will need a strong leader at the helm. Few leaders are stronger than Joel Quenneville. He would give the team instant credibility. Which, in a sports market hoping for a winner to root for, would be huge. It would also make those inevitable rivalry games against the Vancouver Canucks mighty fun.

Why Seattle is a fit for Quenneville: Quenneville has been coaching for 21 straight seasons if you exclude the 2004-05 season, which never happened thanks to a lockout. Even if you want to include the lockout, he’s been coaching at the highest level for 21 of the past 22 years. Maybe he just wants to sit back and rest. Enjoy life.

If this is what he desires to do, Seattle could be perfect for him. It’s not like Quenneville will have to immediately worry about money. After all, the Blackhawks are paying him through next season. Seattle will likely have a team around the 2020-21 season or 2021-22 season.

Why it won’t happen: Quenneville’s probably going to get bored. You can only comb your mustache so many times before you start getting that itch to start coaching again.

But…: Seattle has already put together a pretty solid front office. The challenge of an expansion team is an extremely unique one. Quenneville’s already won three Stanley Cups. Maybe the challenge of helping a team start from scratch is one he would welcome.
