NHL Trade Rumors: Edmonton Oilers desperate to add forwards
According to the latest NHL trade rumors, the Edmonton Oilers are pretty desperate to add some help at forward.
The Edmonton Oilers are quite barren at wing. That’s what tends to happen when you trade Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, and Drake Caggiula and not having much to show for it. The latest NHL trade rumors have the Oilers desperately searching for some forwards.
This rumor comes from TSN’s Ryan Rishaug.

As Rishaug mentions, Edmonton’s desperate to get a forward. They’re willing to offer a first-round pick, Cam Talbot, or possibly even Jesse Puljujarvi to get some help. This could be a last-ditch attempt from general manager Peter Chiarelli to save the season (and likely his job).
The Oilers recently traded Cagguila to the Chicago Blackhawks for Brandon Manning. Manning was someone the Hawks actively wanted to get rid of and hasn’t been impressive during his short tenure with Edmonton.
Meanwhile, Cagguila had 11 points in 29 games with the Oilers and proved he could play respectably with Connor McDavid. While 11 points might not sound impressive, that’s still good for ninth on the Oilers in points. That’s an indictment of Chiarelli and the team.
Talbot could be an intriguing trade piece as a rental. However, most contenders already have their goaltending situations figured out. And even those who don’t likely aren’t going to give up much to get one.
Oilers fans should be rooting for Chiarelli to do nothing, for several reasons. First of all, even if Edmonton makes the postseason, nothing they have done so far suggests they’re lasting more than a round or two.
Secondly, if the Oilers don’t make the playoffs, Chiarelli’s likely gone. That would be a huge blessing in disguise for Edmonton, as Chiarelli hasn’t improved the Oilers much at all.
Thirdly, it’s been a while since he’s done well in a trade. Oilers fans should assume at this point that Chiarelli’s going to lose any trade he makes. He’s dealing from a position of desperateness, which is never good.
