Bruins vs. Blue Jackets

Not the second round series fans were hoping for, but this one is fascinating for several reasons. The largest reason being the Blue Jackets going all-in at the trade deadline, mortgaging most of their future in the process. It’s now or never for them.

If you like goaltending, this will be a great series for you. Sergei Bobrovsky was brilliant in the first round. For the first time in his career, he looked like a two-time Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender in the postseason. Meanwhile, Tuukka Rask was excellent against the Maple Leafs.

This series will come down to several factors. Firstly, goaltending. That’s obvious. Secondly, which team gets more from their best players? Will Matt Duchene, Cam Atkinson, and Artemi Panarin win that battle? Or will the trio of David Pastrnak, Patrice Bergeron, and Brad Marchand win?

One thing to keep an eye on – I’m not entirely sure going a whole week without playing in a game is a good thing for Bobrovsky. He was on a roll even before the first round. Sometimes, the worst thing for a red hot goalie can be rest because it cools them off. The same could be said for the Blue Jackets.

Prediction: Blue Jackets in seven. I think Columbus will play like they’ve been liberated. Sort of like the Capitals after finally beating the Pittsburgh Penguins last year. That said, Boston’s a heck of a team who just won’t give up. Should be a fun series. As always, the coin flip goes to the more chaotic option.
