The Carolina Hurricanes are finally trending in the right direction. Here’s why they have what it takes to bring a Stanley Cup to Raleigh soon.
The Carolina Hurricanes have made an incredible impact in the NHL over the years. Recently, they have been able to be successful once again as they made it to the Eastern Conference Final. The Hurricanes beat the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals in the first round and swept the New York Islanders in the second round.
Despite losing to the Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference Final in four games, the Hurricanes have proven to the entire league that they have what it takes to be a top team. Here are five reasons why they will win a Stanley Cup in the near future.

1. New Management
The Carolina Hurricanes have had previous owners and general managers that have led to success. With a Stanley Cup win during the 2005-2006 season, there is no doubt the general manager at the time Jim Rutherford and previous majority owner Peter Karmanos Jr. (current minority owner) had a substantial influence on the team’s success.
Following a Stanley Cup win during the 2005-2006 NHL season, the Canes struggled to make the playoffs until recent times. The last time the Hurricanes made the playoffs until recent times was during the 2008-2009 season. Management may not have a direct impact on the success of the team, but good management does.
Despite not making the playoffs for over a decade, new management has been brought to light for the Hurricanes organization. The Canes have welcomed Thomas Dundon as the current owner and Don Waddell as the current general manager.
Thomas Dundon has a background as a businessman who will provide the team with new hope and excitement for the coming seasons. Don Waddell is the former general manager of the Atlanta Thrashers. Although the Thrashers are no longer an NHL team, Don Waddell will provide the necessary management the Hurricanes need in order to be successful.
2. New Coach
Rod Brind’Amour took over as the head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes last summer after Bill Peters opted out of his deal and went to the Calgary Flames. With an Eastern Conference Final appearance in his first year, the future looks to be very bright for the team.
Brind’Amour has proven himself as a successful coach so far after proving himself as a successful player. Without his coaching, the Hurricanes wouldn’t have gotten as far as he did. Brind’Amour was a part of the culture change Carolina went through last summer.

Many players look up to Brind’Amour and he has already shown through coaching and season results that the goal for the Hurricanes is to hoist another Stanley Cup in the near future. This kind of leadership is exactly what the Canes need in order to be a successful team for many seasons.
3. Dynamic Players
The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired many dynamic players over the years. Their current roster is full of young talent and veteran experience. Team captain Justin Williams is just one of many players who have led to the Canes’ recent success.
Not only is Williams the current captain of the Hurricanes but he also helped the Hurricanes win their first ever Stanley Cup in 2006. His leadership and teaching to young players have helped them develop and grow.
The Hurricanes have a plethora of young, talented players. Their team consists of players such as Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov, and Teuvo Teravainen. These players have consistently put up many points and have contributed to a winning team.
This kind of mixture of zestful players will prove to the rest of the league how successful this team can be and that a Stanley Cup may be in the near future.

One of the areas in which the Hurricanes have struggled with in the past is in their goal-tending. As of recent, the Canes have had success in their goalie situation. Petr Mrazek and Curtis McElhinney have been a great dynamic duo of goalies to depend on for the team.
Not only have they helped the Canes reach an Eastern Conference Final but they have also possessed excellent stats for the team. These players, along with other talented players in the system, such as Martin Necas and Alex Nedeljkovic, will provide the building foundation for the organization’s future.

There is no doubt that the Carolina Hurricanes have one of the most unique fan bases in NHL history. From Stormy the Pig as their mascot to post-game skits and ceremonies to celebrate, this team certainly has a fan base that is loyal and truly loves hockey.
The atmosphere at the PNC Arena is unlike any other. It has truly evolved into an arena that supports the Canes on good and poor seasons. The fans have truly created their own team within the team. Don Cherry has referred to the team as “a bunch of jerks” and Canes fans have just taken this statement into their own hands with merchandise to represent it.

The support from fans will only increase from here on as the Canes celebrate a much needed successful season. When the Hurricanes continue to be a powerhouse team, the fans will be right behind rooting them to victory.
1. Desire to Win
It has been a long time since the Carolina Hurricanes have experienced playoff hockey. To be exact, it has been almost 10 years since. The team and fans are ready to see the Canes in the playoffs more often.
This season, the Hurricanes were the top-seeded wild card team to make the playoffs. Needless to say, they almost didn’t make the playoffs initially.
However, they proved to the rest of the league that they were ready for playoff hockey by making it all the way to the Eastern Conference Final. This is quite an achievement for a team with a new coach, new management, and not making the playoffs for a decade.
