2. Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens need wings who can score. Laine fits that description perfectly. He can be a bit frustrating at times, but when he’s on his game, there are very few players who can score like him. The Canadiens also have quite a bit of cap space, so they could afford to bring in Laine.

I believe Max Domi would have to be a part of the trade. He’d make sense for the Jets since he could fill in as the third-line center, or maybe even second-line center if Bryan Little’s recovery doesn’t go as well as planned. Domi is an impressive driver of offense and he’d fit in perfectly with the Jets speedy, rush-oriented offense.

But what else could the Canadiens offer? Would the Jets take Montreal’s first-round pick? Or would they prefer a piece who could help them more immediately? Perhaps someone like Brett Kulak or Victor Mete? And would the Canadiens be willing to include either on top of Domi, plus likely a second-round pick?

On paper, the Canadiens and Jets match up well for trades this offseason. Each has what the other team wants. But as they say, it takes two to tango, and it’s entirely possible neither team is willing to tango.
