The Newcomers’ Jersey Numbers for the Detroit Red Wings
Detroit Red Wings fans knew it was coming. With general manager Steve Yzerman at the helm, and with the way the 2021/22 season ended, the team needed a makeover.
With cap space and money to spend, the Red Wings and Yzerman took to free agency to re-load and upgrade the roster, especially the forwards.
Yzerman went to work to see how he could upgrade the roster and get many pieces at a cheap price. He was not looking for a superstar, not with a team rebuilding, but rather middle-six players to help provide more offensive productivity.
Some of the players signed would have received a contract with a higher annual average value (AAV) if they signed elsewhere, but Yzerman worked his magic and got many players to come to Detroit.
Here are the newcomers’ jersey numbers for the Detroit Red Wings.
The players include forwards Andrew Copp, Austin Czarnik, Matt Luff, Steve Kampfer, David Perron, Pontus Andreasson, and Dominik Kubalik.
New Red Wings defensemen include Olli Maatta, Ben Chiarot, Robert Hagg, and Mark Pysyk. New goaltenders are Ville Husso and Jussi Olkinuora.
Below are the numbers the new additions to the Red Wings will be wearing, either in Detroit or within the organization:
2-Olli Maatta
8- Ben Chiarot
18-Andrew Copp
21-Austin Czarnik
22-Matt Luff
26-Pontus Andreasson
35-Ville Husso
38-Robert Hagg
42-Mark Pysyk
45-Jussi Olkinuora
54-Steve Kampfer
57-David Perron
81-Dominik Kubalik
96-Jake Walman
The Red Wings certainly have a big turnover in their roster, but as one can see, the players coming in all have experience and should fit in nicely.
The jersey numbers for the Detroit Red Wings newcomers are for the fans to follow their favorite players, to follow the new guys around the ice, or to see who they are paired with.
Fresh players always bring excitement and new energy to a new team with the emotion of starting something new.
The Red Wings will begin a new chapter in the Steve Yzerman regime, and on paper, the changes look great. How will they fair on the ice? Maybe or maybe not a playoff team this year, but they are growing something special at the Little Caesars Arena.
The 2022/23 version of the Red Wings could be something to watch in the form of pure entertainment.
