The Vegas Golden Knights had a preseason matchup on Friday, Sept. 30, against the San Jose Sharks. While the Golden Knights ended up losing the game, they did have a few big goals during the game.
Phil Kessel signed with the Vegas Golden Knights earlier this offseason. While he might not be the top-line winger he used to be back in Toronto, he can still provide some depth scoring for this team during the upcoming season.
The Golden Knights are trying to get back into the playoffs after missing for the first time in their franchise history. Injuries played a big factor last season, and as long as the team stays healthy this upcoming year, they should be fine.
One reason fans shouldn’t be concerned about the Golden Knight’s chances of getting back into the playoffs is Kessel and another recent addition, Jack Eichel. We finally saw how Kessel could impact the team in their most recent preseason game against the San Jose Sharks. Check out a big play below.
Gotta See It: Phil Kessel sets up Jack Eichel for Golden Knights goal
Kessel had two assists on the night, on two Jack Eichel goals, and registered three shots. He did all that while only playing a little over 13 minutes. It was great to see Kessel finally play again with some real talent like Eichel and company.
Kessel spent the previous three seasons with the Arizona Coyotes, and while the team was competitive a bit towards the beginning of his time in the desert, they struggled overall.
Now Kessel finds himself on a team looking to win, with a fanbase hungry for a championship. The impact of playing in a different market definitely is going to benefit his game, and I can’t wait to watch how he does this upcoming season.
The regular season for the Vegas Golden Knights starts on Oct. 11, in Los Angeles against the Kings. If you are interested in writing on the Golden Knights or any of your favorite teams this upcoming season apply today to join our staff!
