The Ottawa Senators have one player on their roster who very well could put up 50 goals this upcoming season. While they took a significant risk acquiring this player, he could put up 50 goals this season if things pan out.

The Ottawa Senators have had just one player put up 50 goals in a single season. Dany Heatley did it twice in 2006 and 2007. He put up 50 goals each season, making history.

In the Ottawa Senators franchise’s history, not many players scored 40 goals in a single season. Dany Heatley had two seasons putting up 50 goals, and a third season putting up 41 goals. There are also a few other players who put up 40-plus goals.

Alexei Yashin and Daniel Alfredsson each had 40-goal seasons twice, and Marian Hossa had a 45-goal season in 2002-03. So the list of great goal-scoring seasons in Ottawa is not very long, and a Senator’s addition this offseason could add his name to the list this upcoming year.

This offseason, Alex DeBrincat was traded to the Ottawa Senators from the Chicago Blackhawks. DeBrincat is entering a new situation in Ottawa. The Senators are not in as bad of a position as the freshly rebuilding Blackhawks, and now DeBrincat can be on a team pushing for the playoffs.

DeBrincat has been playing with Claude Giroux and Tim Stützle this season. While neither of those guys is Patrick Kane, the dynamic they have built so far this training camp has shown on the ice. An older veteran player like Giroux has fit in with the young duo.

If DeBrincat continues to play in big situations this upcoming season and gets time on the power play, there is no doubt that this prolific goal scorer could put up 50 goals.

DeBrincat has put up 91 goals since the start of the 2019-20 season, and he spoke about that impressive achievement this offseason:

Last season, Alex DeBrincat put up 41 goals throughout 82 games with the Blackhawks. However, his shooting percentage was below average compared to some of his past seasons, so if he plays a full year in Ottawa and manages to capitalize on many of his chances, there is no doubt he could put up 50 goals.

NHL fans might want to grab DeBrincat early in their fantasy drafts, as he could be one of the players who break out this upcoming season.
