For a while now, Alexander Ovechkin’s goal total has been one of the biggest stories in the National Hockey League. The Washington Capitals superstar is already known as one of the greatest goal-scorers of all time and he is close to being the undisputed best one ever.

Ovechkin is just over 100 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record for goals scored in the NHL. There is a very good chance that this happens over the next few years. As long as he stays healthy, he will be amongst the league leaders for a little while longer.

At this point, he might be ready to play until he breaks the record. It doesn’t seem right now, however, that he is going t have to go down that route. On his way to breaking this amazing NHL record, he is breaking a few other records along the way.

Right now, Ovechkin is still in third place on the all-time goals list as he trails Gordie Howe in addition to Wayne Gretzky. On Saturday night, he broke a different record of Howe’s. He scored his 787th career goal which is the most with one NHL team in league history.

Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals is always breaking records.

He tied the record of 786 against Howe’s team in the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night. Now, he is the all-time leader in this category as all 787 of his goals came with the Washington Capitals. This is one of the great accomplishments in his Hall of Fame career.

This goal came exactly how you’d expect. Against the Arizona Coyotes, he was in his office on the power play. He took a Trevor van Riemsdyk pass and blasted it as a one-timer for his seventh goal of the season. He has been scoring goals in that exact way for a long time.

The Capitals were wearing their Reverse Retro sweaters when this happened. The cool thing is that they look like the sweater that Washington was wearing when he scored his first career goal.

Ovechkin is going to keep scoring goals and each one is going to be notable because of where he is at all-time. He is only 13 goals away from 800 and when he reaches his 802nd goal, he will pass Gordie Howe for second all-time.

Then it’s just Wayne. At this point, Washington is becoming must-see TV because of the historic things that Ovechkin is doing. All hockey fans are in for a treat over the next few seasons with his historic chase of being the all-time greatest goal scorer.
