We are officially one month into the 2022-2023 NHL season, and to say that things have been crazy would be a bit of an understatement.

There’s already a 30-point scorer in the league (I’ll give you three guesses as to who that might be), three current division leaders that were non-playoff teams last season, and the Arizona Coyotes would be in the playoffs if the season ended today.

We’ve been pleasantly surprised by teams like the Philadelphia Flyers, Winnipeg Jets, and Seattle Kraken, all of which have a winning record one month into the year. There have also been shocking individual performances from guys like Tage Thompson and Erik Karlsson.

On the other end of the spectrum, we’re still waiting for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals to look like themselves, while the St. Louis Blues find themselves in last place in the Western Conference.

Three overreactions to the first month of the NHL season.

All of the madness makes this one of the best times of the NHL season, as anything is possible. Teams that came into the year without hope may now have hope, and it makes things exciting across the board.

Of course, things have a way of returning back to “normal” (for the most part), so many fans are surely sitting back and waiting for the day that the Tampa Bay Lightning are no longer on the outside of the playoff picture looking in.

On the other hand, it’s sometimes fun to embrace the chaos and allow our imaginations to run wild. This article has been written in that spirit, and it’s all about overreactions to what we’ve seen since we dropped the puck on a new NHL season one month ago.

Without further ado, here are those overreactions to a wonderfully chaotic start to the 2022-2023 NHL campaign.
