The 2023 NHL Draft is still very far away but it will also be here before you know it. As soon as the Stanley Cup is awarded that will become the focus of every team in the league as they try to get to that point of being the last team standing.
Next summer, everyone expects Connor Bedard to be the number one overall pick. As they should. He is an elite prospect that could probably play in the NHL right now if it were allowed. Whoever wins the lottery is going to be very thankful to select the Regina Pats captain.
However, whoever comes in second place in the lottery is going to get a very nice consolation prize. Adam Fantilli is also one of the best prospects in the world right now and he has been absolutely incredible this year playing for the University of Michigan.
On Friday night, Michigan was on the road playing against the University of Wisconsin at Kohl Center. It is a tremendous place to play hockey and Adam Fantilli was out there feeling good.
The 2023 NHL Draft will see Adam Fantilli selected near the top of the board.
His team lost but he scored a goal from an impossible angle which is the type of stuff that is surely going to impress scouts that watch. The goal was his 12th of the season. He also has 15 assists for 27 points in 16 games which is just marvelous.
His goal was assisted by Luke Hughes and Seamus Casey who were both draft picks of the New Jersey Devils in recent years but you can bet that Fantilli won’t be drafted by the now first-place Devils.
Instead, he is going to go to one of the current bottom-tier NHL teams. Organizations like the Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks, Arizona Coyotes, Columbus Blue Jackets, and San Jose Sharks amongst others have their eyes on prospects like this.
With Fantilli leading the way in his draft year, Michigan has a shot to be a very good team by the end of the year. This was a tough loss but they saw some of their stars find their way to the scoresheet which is really fun for NHL fans.
Although we have to wait just a little bit longer to see him in the league, it won’t be long before Fantilli is skating at an NHL rink near you. It would be nice to see him continue to score these types of crazy goals as he did on Friday night in Madison.
