The PWHL announced lots of details about its league over the last few days and fans are excited to see where it goes.
Women’s hockey now has a great league at the top level in the United States and Canada. This is well deserved.
It would be outstanding to see this league expand a lot in both countries. As of right now, they are beginning with six teams.
Those six teams are going to play in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, New York, Boston, and Minnesota. All six of those places are hockey crazy.
Each of them produces tons of talent and four of the six are Original Six NHL cities. The other two have incredible NHL programs as well they just aren’t as old.
One city that needs a PWHL franchise badly is Chicago. This is one of the biggest cities in the country and deserves to see how amazing women’s hockey is up close.
The city of Chicago desperately needs to add a PWHL franchise ASAP.
Hockey just might not be popular enough as a whole in town but it can get there. When Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Duncan Keith were dominating each and every year, the interest in the sport grew.
However, it died down a little bit over the last handful of years. The hope is that Connor Bedard will help the Blackhawks grow the game here again.
It would be nice to see hockey be as popular as football in this city. We’ve seen how crazy people can get for the sport. If the women got that kind of love from the Chicago faithful, it would do amazing things for them.
Chicago is not the only city well deserving of a team. Buffalo, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Dallas all come to mind but Chicago should be next.
There are lots of great female players that come from Illinois so we can only hope that this league gets a team in town as soon as possible. Until then, we will certainly be enjoying the other six teams.
