The Philadelphia Flyers have a lot to look forward to
The Philadelphia Flyers lost a tough one on Saturday night. They took on the Dallas Stars who many see as a favorite to come out of the Western Conference. It was an overtime loss so they still picked up a point but couldn’t get the extra one in 3 on 3.
They saw guys like Travis Konecny and Joel Farabee score (Konecny had two) score goals but they didn’t do the best job defending the best players on the Stars. Few teams shut those guys down though so it is hard to be mad at the outcome of this game if you’re the Flyers.
This franchise has such a bright future ahead of them and it doesn’t seem like people realize it yet. For one, they have this Bobby Orr Brink kid on their team right now. He is absolutely incredible as he keeps making sensational plays. He earned a spot on the team and in the top-six so we have to hope that they keep it that way.
Brink collected an assist on a goal in that Saturday night loss to the Stars. He is, however, still searching for his first career NHL goal. He is so close to it and it will come very soon. If he keeps playing his game, the puck will be in the back of the net in no time.
The Philadelphia Flyers are adding a ton of players over the next handful of years.
It is fun to think about who Brink might be playing with in the future. For one, Matvei Michkov is their number-one prospect right now and he is outstanding. They have to wait for his KHL contract to end which was part of the reason he fell to them in the draft but he will be worth the wait.
Watching Brink and Michkov sling it around on the power play is going to be must-see TV when they are both fully developed and together in the league. It doesn’t end there for Philly either. There are a ton of really good players for fans to be excited about.
Another one that deserves a little extra love is Cutter Gauthier. He is currently a forward at Boston College and they are very good. He is on a stacked team and carries his weight very well. Through the first four games of this season, he has three goals and an assist for four points.
He had a very good weekend against Denver and Rensselaer as he scored a couple of goals and added his one helper on the season. Playing with guys like Will Smith and Gabe Perreault will certainly get him ready for skilled linemates in the NHL.
Thinking about adding him on that power play unit and snapping it around with Michkov and Brink makes the idea sound even better. Once the whole group is together, they are going to become a power in the Metropolitan Division.
The Flyers were in a tough spot a few years ago. Now, with new leadership in charge, they are starting to look like a serious organization again. There is certainly a lot to look forward to.
