The Carolina Hurricanes are one of the best teams in the NHL. They have been for a long time. They have also not done as much damage beyond the first round of the playoffs as they would have liked. They are hoping for different results in 2023-24.

In the latter stages of last season, they lost one of their best players for the season. They were without Andrei Svechnikov because of knee surgery to repair an ACL in his knee. He hasn’t played yet this season but he has been practicing with the team.

He made his season debut on Friday night against the San Jose Sharks. As expected, the Hurricanes won by a final score of 3-0. That isn’t surprising because the Sharks are one of the worst teams in the NHL.

In fact, San Jose is the only team in the league without a win. They are 0-7-1 without a single win. The only point they have is a shootout loss. Carolina needed to get going with a big win over this terrible team and they did it. Things are usually easier for them with Svechnikov in the lineup.

The Carolina Hurricanes finally have Andrei Svechnikov back in the mix.

He didn’t have a goal or an assist but he did have four shots on goal which shows how he was engaged in the offensive attack. They didn’t need him on the score sheet in this one to win but they sure are happy that he is clearly good to go.

They won 3-0 thanks to a hat trick from Teuvo Teravainen. They got the offense that they needed right at the perfect time. The hope now is that all of their pieces can come together and start winning some games with regularity. With Svechnikov back, that is certainly possible.

The Hurricanes are now going to hit the road for a few Metropolitan Division matchups. It will start on Monday against the Philadelphia Flyers before playing each New York team in their barns.

This is going to be a very important stretch for them as they need to win some of these divisional matchups. If they start winning a bunch of games now, you can bet that Svechnikov will be playing a big role in it. As hockey fans, it is so great to see him back.
