Boston University vs Boston College is one of the best rivalries in college hockey. We were given another very good installment of it on Friday night at BC’s barn.

This is the first time in the 106-year rivalry that the two teams are marching up as the #1 and #2 teams in the country. They are the elite of college hockey and it is amazing for the sport to see them match up at this stage.

BC took their home matchup 4-1. Their big boys came to play in this one. Their big line of Will Smith (San Jose Sharks), Gabe Perreault (New York Rangers), and Ryan Leonard (Washington Capitals) were incredibly dynamic. They led the way.

Leonard scored the first goal, Perrault had the second, and Smith had an assist. Their other NHL first-round stud, Cutter Gauthier (Anaheim Ducks), scored a goal as well.

All of these guys won a World Junior Gold a few weeks ago and now they are firmly back to dominating college hockey. Andre Gasseau (Boston Bruins) added the fourth goal.

Speaking of winning the World Junior Gold, Jacob Fowler (Montreal Canadiens) was the winning goaltender for BC. The former third-round draft pick is on fire lately and this was as impressive as any win he’s had this season.

For Boston University, Jack Hughes (Los Angeles Kings, not New Jersey Devils) scored their lone goal. It was a big goal as it made the score 2-1. Cutting the lead in half was good for BU but it didn’t last long as BC responded quickly.

This is a tough loss for the Terriers and a good win for the Eagles but both squads need to forget about it now. They play again at BU’s rink on Saturday so there isn’t much time to dwell on this one.

If BC can take this one and the weekend sweep, there is a good chance they will jump up to be the #1 team. As for BU, they can probably hold onto that spot with a win and a series split. There is a lot at stake here.

If BU wants to get the win in this one, they need to get their big boys going to keep up with the top players of BC. It is a game that Macklin Celebrini and Lane Hutson need to step up. If they can get it going in this one while slowing down the stars of the Eagles, they can earn this split.
