The NCAA Tournament is as entertaining as it’s ever been. After a couple of great weeks of deciding on seeding and playing the first couple of rounds, we are finally down to the Frozen Four.
On Saturday, Denver won a narrow 2-1 victory over Cornell. It was a great season for Cornell and they were almost able to pull it off but Denver scored that final goal.
After that game, Boston University took care of their business against Minnesota. The Golden Gophers have a brilliant team but couldn’t overcome the juggernaut that is BU.
The early stages of the Frozen Four were loaded with entertainment
In the first Sunday game, Boston College took on Quinnipiac. It was a battle of the top team (BU) against the defending National Champions (Quinnipiac). It, as expected, became an “instant classic” type of game.
After going back and forth all game long, overtime was needed. In the extra frame, BC avoided the massive upset and won by a final score of 5-4.
In the later game, Michigan and Michigan State faced off to see which Big Ten team would represent the conference in the Frozen Four. Although Michigan State was the better team all year long, they weren’t able to get over their rivals in this big matchup. The Wolverines beat the Spartans 5-2.
So there you have it, Michigan, Boston College, Denver, and Boston University are your new Frozen Four for 2024. They are all classic hockey programs that have a lot of experience in this arena.
Michigan has 28 appearances and nine championships. BC has 25 appearances with five wins. BU has 24 appearances and five wins. Denver has 19 appearances and nine wins.
Will one of Denver or Michigan add their tenth or will one of the Boston schools add their sixth? It is going to be entertaining to find out.
