The Minnesota Wild did what about ten other teams should have which is select Zeev Buium in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft. He had a case to go in the top three but he fell to the Wild who traded up to get him at 13.

That is why serious teams stay serious teams. Now, the Wild have Buium in their system with Brock Faber dominating at the NHL level. This franchise is great at developing defenseman and Buium will be no different.

He won’t play in the NHL right after being drafted. He will go back to Denver for one more year. Of course, the Pioneers are looking to repeat as National Champions. They won it all at the Xcel Energy Center back in the spring.

Buium also won a Gold Medal with Team USA at the World Junior Championships in the middle of the season. He’ll have a chance to help USA Hockey defend that crown as well.

The Minnesota Wild struck gold with their selection of Zeev Buium

All the kid does is win. He is a big part of it all too as the most impressive defenseman on just about every team he plays on. He was one of the biggest factors in all of those wins.

2023-24 will be a great year of development for him. He should be even better than he was as a freshman which is a compliment of the highest order because he was wonderful from the blue line.

Gabe Perreault, Ryan Leonard, and James Hagens amongst others all believe that they can win the Hobey Baker but Buium will make it hard on them. It is going to be incredible to watch.

After what he hopes is another Gold Medal/National Title year, he is sure to sign with the Wild and get in a few games at the end of the year. He would be eligible to play for them in the playoffs if they made it but that is up to his play and the team’s decision makers.

At the end of the day, everybody wins by him going back to school for one more year. If he’s a Norris-caliber guy or even just a tick below in a few years, everyone will see how well he developed and this decision is a big part of it.
