NHL Mock Draft Pick #21 – Ottawa Senators
The Ottawa Senators cash in on the Mike Fisher trade with the 21st overall pick. Their status hasn’t changed much since the 6th pick, and they will likely continue to build up front and look for scoring potential.
Tony, editor of SenShot is ready to make his selection on behalf of the Senators.
First off, we would like to thank once again Fansided and the Too Many Men On The Site for hosting a great event. On behalf of SenShot and the Ottawa Senators organization, we are pleased to announce that with the 21st overall pick in the 2011 Fansided NHL Mock Draft, SenShot selects from the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League, right winger Nicklas Jensen.
Jared’s Analysis – Jensen is perhaps one of the lesser known talents in the first round. He just completed his first year in North America, netting 29 goals and 29 assists with the Oshawa Generals. Jensen is a big (6’2″), quick talent who might end up being the best player to ever come out of Denmark. Eventually he could see time alongside fellow countryman Peter Regin in the Senators lineup.
Tony outlines the SenShot reasoning for choosing Jensen.
The 6’2″ right winger from Denmark is the perfect pick to compliment our first selection of center Ryan Strome. In his first year in the OHL, Jensen put up 29 goals and 58 points in 61 games. Projected to be a power forward in the future, Jensen has great speed, a quick wrist shot and protects the puck well. Listed as a right winger, Jensen can play either wing position and has shown his commitment to playing in the NHL by coming over from Europe and learning the North American game. Jensen will need time to develop and is a few years away, but with a lack of impact right-wingers in the organization, Ottawa hopes Jensen could step in when Daniel Alfredsson retires. With a great first round with Strome and Jensen selected, Ottawa has the makings of two future top six forwards.

Now on the clock for the #22 selection, is the Anaheim Ducks. You may or may not have heard along the Fansided network that the Lead Blogger for Ducks Daily Blog, Susan, passed away this week. As a show of respect for Susan, I will not be posting a selection tomorrow, but will make one on behalf of the Ducks on Tuesday.
PREVIEWING THE DUCKS
2010-2011 Record: 47-30-5 (9th Overall)
League Rankings:
Goals for: 11th
Goals Against: 20th
Power Play: 3rd
Penalty Kill: 19th
TOP 5 Prospects in the system: Emerson Etem (RW), Peter Holland (C), Kyle Palmieri (RW), Sami Vatanen (D), Devante Smith-Pelly (LW)
NEEDS: The Ducks are in an interesting situation in that they have a young first line of stud players, followed by an aging second line that may or may not return intact, depending on the status of Teemu Selanne. Saku Koivu anchors the line, but even if Selanne returns, the Ducks will soon need replacements for them. On defense, they are not deep, still suffering from the departure of Scott Niedermayer and Chris Pronger. The Ducks could go any way with this pick.
TOP 5 PLAYERS ON THE BOARD (per ISS):
1. Oscar Klefbom, D, Farjestad (SWE ELITE)
2. JT Miller, LW, USA Under-18 (USHL)
3. Connor Murphy, D, USA Under-18 (USHL)
4. Jonas Brodin, D, Farjestad (SWE ELITE)
5. Alexandr Khokhlachev, F, Windsor (OHL)
