The previous two uniforms were much simpler changes when compared to what I have in mind for the Senators. A simple tweak of the striping or a logo swap will not be enough to fix this Reebok Edge mess of uniform. Like I said earlier, not every team needs to follow the same classic cookie cutter pattern that has been seen on hockey jerseys since the Original 6 era, but modern jerseys are also guilty of going to cookie cutter route as well.

The Senators could very easily swap in their current third as their home jersey and then make this year’s Heritage Classic jersey their new away, but that would be a case of a 90’s expansion team playing “Original Six Dress Up”. It wouldn’t be a bad look, but it would not be true to the Senators identity established in 1992.

The black / red / white color scheme should stay. Notice I put black first, as I believe the Senators should ditch the red at home in exchange for black. They do not need to replicate their home jersey or the current alternate (and please, never go near the awful SENS third again), but more traditional red and white striping on the sleeves, without all that business going on underneath the arms would look much nicer. The striping pattern on the SENS alternate wasn’t bad, until Reebok ruined it with the red and white under the arms. Some simple hem stripes would be a nice touch as well.

Now that we have a more traditional looking jersey mapped out for the Senators,  it’s time to take a look at the logo. Much like the Canucks, we have the dilemma of finding the happy medium between a overly simplistic and an overly complex logo. Luckily, the Senators have the perfect logo as an unused alternate.

The original Senators logo (pictured right) was a classic in the 90s, but it looks out of date today. It is no surprise really that the Senators decided to ditch it when the Reebok Edge made it’s debut back in 2007. That doesn’t mean they made the right choice, as the logo that took it’s place is cartoony and way too detailed. It is a modern logos that somehow already looks outdated.

Fortunately, the Senators have already done the hard work of updating their original logo for us, and the result is amazing. Too bad it rarely sees the light of day. It is the perfect blend of old and new and would look great on a more traditional Senators jersey.
