NHL All Star Game Mock Draft: Maybe The Fans Need More Say
The NHL All Star game will be held on Sunday, and tonight the All Stars will set their rosters. It’s clear that the NHL wants fans involved in the All Star process, and the fans seem to love having a vote. What if the NHL changed the NHL All Star Game draft format to include fans? It could be an amazing chance to fulfill some people dreams. It wouldn’t be that hard to do; all that would need to happen is NHL.com runs a contest and picks five fans for each team and allows them to text in their picks. Better yet, use twitter and pick a hash tag; just give fans five-minutes to tweet their choices.
It’s not that I have any issues with the current draft format; I just think it could be made more fan friendly. After all the NHL All Star game is as much for the

fans as it is for anyone. With some big name stars pulling out due to “injuries” fans will not be able to view some of their favorite stars. Maybe allowing them to help pick the rosters would make up for any drop in the TV numbers. We all know fan will watch if there is an emotional interest in any event.

The format for the NHL All Star game rosters is simple. Each team will be made up of three goaltenders, 6 defensemen and 12 forwards. Each team’s three goaltenders must be picked by the end of Round 10 and each team’s six defensemen must be picked by the end of Round 15. There is one trade per team allowed in this year’s roster draft.
Tonight roster draft will be as much about playing favorites as it will be about NHL stars picking other stars to showcase their talents and pick on their friends. With the All Star weekend in Columbus and Nick Foligno and Jonathan Toews in charge of drafting tonight’s roasters we could be in for a few surprises. Maybe Foligno picks Rick Nash with his first or second pick, maybe its Zemgus Girgensons being drafted before Alex Ovechkin while his rap video is playing behind him. It won’t matter how the draft goes as long as it is not as dull as a real NHL draft.
Mock Draft Round 1-5
Round 1: Steven Stamkos, Alex Ovechkin
Round 2: Vladimir Tarasenko, Evgeni Malkin
Round 3: Shea Weber, John Tavares
Round 4: Carey Price, Anze Kopitar
Round 5: Claude Giroux, Mark Giordano
There is always the question who will be drafted last. I’m sure you remember when Phil Kessel went last and was a big baby about it. We can only hope that happens again. Players don’t forget about that stuff, and it sure would make for a great story line. Hopefully the NHL and its players show their fans a great weekend and come Sunday afternoon we are not scratching our heads wonder what the heck just happened.
