. Defenseman. montreal canadiens. Jeff Petry. 4. player. 152

Much like the Islanders, the Montreal Canadiens have been a huge surprise this season. They’re currently a playoff team, occupying the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. And, for once, the Canadiens success isn’t because of goaltender Carey Price. Though he’s been better as of late, he shouldn’t be Montreal’s All-Star. That honor should have gone to defenseman Jeff Petry.

A strong case could be made for center Max Domi as well. However, where would the Habs be without Petry? He’s been huge for them this season, quietly filling in for Shea Weber. In 40 games this season, Petry has 29 points, the fourth-most in the Atlantic Division. Not only that, his possession numbers, which have always been good, have been fantastic.

Now, I get why Weber is the Canadiens’ Final Vote candidate. The All-Star game is for stars and Montreal’s captain is a star. If you think Weber isn’t one, let me ask you a question. Would you tune in to the Skills Competition to see if he could top his own hardest shot record? Deep down, you know the answer to that question is “you bet”.

However, Petry should have gone to the All-Star Game over Price. He’s been a much bigger reason for their success.
