2019 NHL All-Star Game: Top 5 biggest snubs
The Boston Bruins have been the beneficiaries of some great goaltending this season. That’s nothing new. The Bruins almost always have good goaltending. However, said goaltending hasn’t come from the expected source in Tuukka Rask. Rather, it has come from Jaroslav Halak.
He’s been arguably the best signing from this offseason other than maybe John Tavares and Lehner. As mentioned earlier, Lehner leads the NHL in save percentage. Guess who’s second? Halak, at .928. And, for what it’s worth, he has played several more games than Lehner. Halak also owns the NHL’s third-lowest GAA (minimum 15 games).
This isn’t to say Rask has been bad. However, Halak has started more games this season than him. He’s unofficially become the starting goalie in Boston. The Bruins should have more than one All-Star between David Pastrnak (who ultimately got selected), Patrice Bergeron (their final vote candidate), Brad Marchand, and Halak. Unfortunately, they only have one.
The decision to go with Price over Petry was a double whammy. Not only did it keep Petry out of the All-Star Game, it kept Halak out of it as well. Frederik Andersen of the Maple Leafs was snubbed too. However, he’s injured right now and Toronto has enough representatives as is. Speaking of which…
