Reviewing the Winnipeg Jets Heritage Classic jersey
The Winnipeg Jets face off against the Calgary Flames in next month’s Heritage Classic. The Jets unveiled a sweet new look, paying tribute to their past.
When the NHL returned to Winnipeg in 2012, the reception was nothing but overwhelmingly positive. After their beloved Winnipeg Jets moved to Arizona to become the Coyotes 15 years prior, the city was hoping for the truth of a newer, better Jets. When Atlanta didn’t work out for the Thrashers, Winnipeg welcomes the franchise with open arms.
One thing was for sure, these weren’t your parents’ Jets. And another thing was for sure, they sure weren’t dressed like your parents’ Jets. The second coming of the storied franchise donned a navy blue uniform, with a new logo that has a bomber plane jet featured front and center.
As the team gets ready for the Heritage Classic next month, they revealed their new jersey’s just prior to the start of the season. The game might be a month away, but by the looks the Jets are ready to party like its 1989 and its Teemu Sealanne’s rookie year once again. Take a look here.

The glorious retro block letter logo is back. The new jersey reintroduced the red that was entirely left out of the 2012 redesign. The WHA influence is strong with this one. Also on the jersey arms are separate stripes of the blue, white and red as opposed to the original broad white stripe surrounded by much thinner red stripes.
Such a move bucks a trend by recent Jersey redesigns that reduce striping, such as the New Jersey Devils recent re-design, for example. With the success of recent throwback jersey campaigns, it’s fair to say the Winnipeg Jets knocked this one out of the park.
The Jets are the home team for this years Heritage Classic, and unlike the rules during the original Jets tenure, the home team switched to color uniforms instead of white uniforms. Thus, the new Jets jerseys will be navy blue instead of the classic white. That will draw few complaints, as the navy blue color scheme was one of the main draws of the new Jets jersey after their return.
In addition to the Heritage Classic, the Jets will wear the throwbacks during select games this year. The 2012 version will still be their main version. Still, I don’t think anyone in Winnipeg would put up a protest if the Jets decided to adopt these as their new one ice threads.
