NHL: 30 best Game 7 performances in Stanley Cup history: 19. Max Talbot

  • 2 goals
  • 2 points

Losing just didn’t sit right with Max Talbot, especially when it took place on the biggest stage. After losing to the Detroit Red Wings one year prior, Talbot and the Pittsburgh Penguins did everything in their power to make sure that pain was never repeated again.

Talbot dominated series after series in the 2009 playoffs with the help of his Penguins teammates but really took his game to another level during the finals. History almost repeated itself for the Penguins as they fell behind 2-0 to the Red Wings yet again. This time around, however, they fought back to even things up.

With both squads splitting the next two games, everything was on the line in Game 7. Dealing with the pain of losing to this exact team one year prior, Talbot came out like a man possessed. He scored the team’s first goal within a minute and a half.

To ensure that he left no stone unturned, Talbot scored again, this time, in the second period. The Red Wings attempted to make it a game in the third period by scoring their first and only goal but Talbot simply wouldn’t be denied as he helped lead the Penguins to a Game 7 win almost single-handedly.
