The New York Rangers were foaming at the mouth for a Stanley Cup. Their inability to get it done over the years was consistently thrown in their faces by fans who were starved for a title but in 1994, they simply weren’t going to leave the ice without that trophy safely on their shoulders.

Their run to the title didn’t start great as they lost Game 1 to the Vancouver Canucks. They would turn things around completely by winning the next three games to take a 3-1 lead. It was nearly a choke job for the Rangers as they lost the next two games to the Canucks. But, it wasn’t just that they lost but the manner in how it happened as they were blown off the ice in games five and six. In total, goalie Mike Richter allowed 10 goals during that two-game stretch and placed his team on the brink of yet another disappointing end to their season.

Embarrassed by his performance, Richter allowed only two goals in Game 7 and stuffed 28 shot attempts throughout the game. It was the finest hour for Ritcher who effectively helped end a then, 54-year drought for the Rangers.
