Ever wonder which NHL team has the most likes on Facebook, but don’t want to go looking for yourself? Fear no more, as today I have gathered all the top five most popular NHL teams based on their total likes on Facebook from their official page.

Facebook was founded in 2004, two years before Twitter and six years before Instagram, and although being less popular overall, it still has its fair share of daily users that find their hockey content on its platform.

Here are the five most-liked NHL teams on Facebook.

Boston Bruins: 2.1M

The Boston Bruins are an Original Six team with an unbelievable fanbase, so it’s no surprise that they come in second place here. Their 2.1 million likes on Facebook are second only to another Original Six team.

Being the strongest team in the NHL definitely helps too, and it doesn’t hurt when your team has a couple of Cup runs during the years Facebook was hitting its peak between 2010-2013.

Chicago Blackhawks: 2.6M

Just like the Bruins, the Blackhawks are an Original Six franchise, so it’s no surprise they also have a really loyal fanbase.

Similar to the Bruins, the Blackhawks also gained some popularity on the app by winning the Stanley Cup twice in that “peak period” I mentioned earlier. They won once in 2010, and in 2013.

Detroit Red Wings: 1.9M

The third Original Six team on this list, the Detroit Red Wings, is tied for third place on this list with almost 2 million likes.

The playoff streak they had for 25 straight seasons that ended in the 2015-16 season helped the team gain a fanbase for new hockey fans as the powerhouse team in the NHL for many years.

Montreal Canadiens: 1.6M

The fourth Original Six team on this list, and the most successful out of all five teams listed here, is the Montreal Canadiens.

They have won 24 Stanley Cups, more than any other franchise ever has, and have been able to remain competitive for a number of years leading up to the 2022-23 season.

Pittsburgh Penguins: 1.9M

The only non-Original Six team on this list, the Pittsburgh Penguins gained popularity in the Sidney Crosby era, right around when Facebook was first launched.

The Penguins have one of the largest fanbases in the NHL, so it’s no surprise they are the most popular team that isn’t an Original Six franchise.

Overall, there are eight teams with at least a million likes while the other 24 have yet to reach that milestone.

This is a great tool to use to compare which teams have the best social media managers. Facebook appeals to older audiences, so it’s likely tougher to reel more fans in.
